I bought my first birdhouse in an antique store. I loved the color, so I painted it to preserve it. Why birdhouses? I’m attracted to their textures. Right now I’m working on about 15 more birdhouses. One is a dollhouse that's being converted into a birdhouse.
I appreciate the artistry of this piece, created in the 1900s. I bought it from an antique dealer, who found it on a farm in Nebraska. The flames coming out of the chimney, the pattern on the roof … coolest thing ever. I added the fencing, which is from the same era.
The Tulip House
So much fun to put together: three faces, with sunglasses from fleas and thrifts. The noses are ceramic insulators, the mouth a planer.
Someone gave me the small doghouse, which I converted to a birdhouse, then added the bird dog to the doghouse. Just seemed like the right thing to do.
